a.i.r. nyc Community Health Workers, or CHWs, know the neighborhoods they serve and speak the languages of the families they engage. All a.i.r. nyc CHWs are trained to use effective engagement strategies, such as Motivational Interviewing (M.I.) and cultural humility, and are equipped with smartphones and tablets for in-field data retrieval. They speak Spanish, French, Mandingo, Susu, English, Mandarin, and more. By helping families learn more about asthma self-management and available services, a.i.r. nyc CHWs keep asthmatic children and adults healthy, active, and out of the hospital, with fewer missed work days and fewer school absences.
